GIS: “Tool” or “Science”?

Here’s an interesting paper by Dawn J. Wright, Michael F. Goodchild, and James D. Proctor that appeared in The Annals of the Association of American Geographers in 1997. It’s based on a discussion that occurred on GIS-L way back in 1993.
